ROHI July Newsletter – Acts of Compassion, Celebration & Care

July was a beautiful tapestry of service, smiles, and spiritual growth! We’ve witnessed the power of community transformed into action—and thanks to you, the results have been profound!

Presbyterian Church Teams – Rebuilding Homes and Hope
Four dedicated groups from the Presbyterian Church came alongside our community to spend time with the children and they even repaired homes for two families. Using wood and other locally sourced materials, they strengthened walls, fixed roofs, and created safer, more stable living spaces. These efforts brought not only physical improvements but also renewed hope and encouragement to the families who live there.

Ekklesia Loarque Tegus – A Joy-Filled Celebration
Ekklesia Loarque Tegus brought a day of laughter, games, hamburgers, and the Word of God to our students in a special “Day of Joy.” Their visit was a beautiful reminder that sharing God’s love can be both deeply meaningful and full of fun.

Keith and Jill – Compassion at the Dump
In a heartfelt outreach, Keith and his wife visited the city dump to distribute meals to families working there. Their simple act of service spoke volumes, offering dignity, care, and encouragement to those who often feel overlooked.

Encounter Church – Carnival and Lunch Outreach
Encounter Church brought the excitement of a carnival to ROHI, filling the campus with games, laughter, and joy. Afterwards, they traveled to the dump to share lunch with the workers, bringing both physical nourishment and heartfelt encouragement.

Medical Brigade – Instituto Baxter
A team from Instituto Baxter came to ROHI to provide medical care and screenings for our students and community. Their work addressed both immediate needs and long-term health, showing compassion through professional service.

COACEHL Cooperative – New Shoes for Students
Thanks to the generosity of Cooperativa COACEHL, our students received new shoes. Having durable footwear means they can walk to school more comfortably and participate in activities with confidence and joy.

Graduation of La Gran Aventura Program
We celebrated the graduation of our La Gran Aventura program, where students grew spiritually and learned valuable life skills. This milestone was marked with pride, gratitude, and a reminder that each child’s journey matters deeply.

Celebrating Indigenous Day
Our ROHI students marked Indigenous Day with colorful crafts, cultural pride, and a joyful celebration of Honduras’s rich heritage. It was a meaningful time to honor our roots and recognize the beauty and strength found in diversity.

Supporting Learning Through Assessment
Our psychology intern, Douglas Barahona, has been conducting assessments to better understand the needs of students facing learning challenges. These evaluations allow us to provide more personalized support so that each child has the opportunity to grow and succeed academically.

Welcome to Our New Teacher – Ian
We are excited to welcome Ian to the ROHI team as a high school teacher! Ian began teaching at ROHI last month, and his heart for students, humility, and leadership have already stood out.His addition is also a great blessing for the entire ROHI community, as it allows our longtime teacher, Uriel, to dedicate more time to much-needed construction projects and administrative support. Ian shared reflections from his first week that deeply moved us, and we’re honored to share them with you in his own words on our website: Welcome Ian – Our New High School Teacher. We are grateful to have Ian on our team and look forward to the impact he’ll have on our students—and the transformation this next chapter will bring to his own life as well!

Gratitude from Our Hearts
Your support is the lifeblood of ROHI. Every repaired home, every celebration, every medical visit, every shared meal, and every academic milestone happens because of you—our faithful sponsors, donors, prayer warriors, and partners. Thank you for pouring your love, prayers, and resources into these children and their families.Together, we are building brighter futures and stronger communities.
ROHI Project aims to provide comprehensive care to the children, youth, and their families who live and work in the Tegucigalpa, Honduras, municipal dump. The project name ROHI is inspired from one of the Hebrew names for God, Jehovah Rohi meaning “the Lord is my shepherd” as seen in Psalm 23.
